SPSAS OBESITY

About the School

The São Paulo School of Advanced Science in Obesity is an event funded by FAPESP and designed to fully or partially support short courses on cutting‑edge scientific topics that are the focus of internationally competitive research being conducted in the state of São Paulo.

Purpose

The proposal of the São Paulo School of Advanced Science in Obesity aims to contribute to the training of young researchers in the fields of obesity, metabolic diseases, and cardiovascular diseases. The course content will be comprehensive, including epidemiology, nutritional genetics, epigenetics, molecular and cellular aspects, and advances in preventive and therapeutic interventions.

When and where will it take place?

The SPSAS – Obesity will be held from October 19 to 30, 2026, at the Barão Geraldo Campus of UNICAMP (Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil).

Target audience

Undergraduate students, PhD students, and postdoctoral researchers who are developing research projects in areas related to obesity, metabolism, and diabetes. A total of 100 spots will be available, distributed between projects carried out in Brazil and projects conducted abroad.

Program

The event will feature lectures by nationally and internationally recognized professors and researchers in the field, as well as presentations by all participants, either as posters or oral presentations.

The São Paulo School of Advanced Science in Obesity will take place in morning and afternoon sessions from October 19 to 30, 2026. A detailed program with class topics and schedules will be released closer to the event date.

The SPSAS will be held 100% in person and in English. There will be no simultaneous translation.

How many people can participate?

The São Paulo School of Advanced Science in Obesity offers 100 spots, distributed as follows:

20 – UNICAMP Students/Researchers (all campuses):
    • UNICAMP Postdoctoral researchers: 05
    • UNICAMP PhD students: 10
    • UNICAMP Undergraduate students: 05
Of the remaining 80 spots:

50 are for students and researchers funded by foreign agencies and conducting their research outside Brazil:

    • Postdoctoral researchers: 15
    • PhD students: 30
    • Undergraduate students: 05

The remaining 30 spots are for students and researchers funded in Brazil and conducting their research in the country.

Among these, 50% of the spots will be allocated to those who have institutional affiliation and conduct their research outside the state of São Paulo.
